XML, XPath & XSD tools

Formatting a SOAP response, writing an XPath expression to pull one field out of a large document, or validating a file against an XSD before it reaches a legacy system — XML work tends to be precise and unforgiving of typos. These tools cover formatting, XPath 1.0 and XQuery 3.1 querying, XSD 1.0 validation and generation, and converting XML to JSON or CSV.

XPath tester lets you bind namespace prefixes explicitly, which matters for any document using a default namespace, and XSD validator resolves local schema files rather than only public ones. XSD to JSON Schema flags where the mapping is only an approximation, since XSD has constructs JSON Schema can't express exactly. XML formatter beautifies without touching text node content, so whitespace-sensitive fields stay intact.

XML / XPath / XSD tools FAQ

How do I select an element with a namespace in XPath?

You need to bind a prefix to the namespace URI and use that prefix in your expression, since XPath won't match a default namespace with an unprefixed name. XPath tester lets you register namespace prefixes alongside the document, so you can write and test the expression against the actual XML.

What's the difference between XPath and XQuery?

XPath 1.0 selects nodes with a single path expression, good for pulling out one value or set of nodes. XQuery 3.1 adds FLWOR expressions and constructors, so it can loop, filter, sort and build new XML from the results — reach for XQuery tester when one XPath expression isn't enough.

Can I convert an XSD schema to JSON Schema?

XSD to JSON Schema maps elements and types across, but flags constructs it can only approximate, since JSON Schema has no exact equivalent for some XSD features like substitution groups. Check the warnings before treating the output as a drop-in replacement for the original XSD.
